Category: Culture, Identity and self development.
Course Rational: This was created for young people on the journey of self discovery and the youth workers and professionals who work with them.
Aim: The aim of H2BAP is to provide a lens through which young people can critically examine, and if need be, de-construct and reconstruct their personal identity and world-view. It was also created as a tool to help those who work with young people, especially at risk and vulnerable young people.
Process: As stated before this course acts as a prism through which young people take a critical look at both themselves and the environments in which they live and build concepts of self. This is achieved through assessing and critiquing the image and persona of “The Player”. They begin the journey of self discovery, social awareness, conceptual de-construct and reconstruction.
The process is group work, self reflection, journalling, team debates and accountability challenges. This is all facilitated in motivational type lecture/presentation.
Expected Outcome: Based on our 25 years of experience in running this workshop and seeing the consistent results, We do not expect anyone to leave this programme and become rocket scientists overnight. However by the end of the five sessions we do know that they will have gained a greater self awareness of self, and confidence in newly discovered or rediscovered, personal potential. Here are some of the areas in which we have seen consistent recurring outcomes for participants:
Duration of Course: This is a five session workshop each lasting 90mins in duration. It can also be run over one, three or five days (normally Mon-Fri) or as part of the weekend curriculum for a youth getaway, depending on your event.

H2BAP TESTIMONIALS
“ Thank you! It was a real eye opener. It made me look at myself, people, life and the world differently.”
“ Come back again please”
“ Very educational. Enjoyed the experience”
“… Absolutely amazing…motivational speech, original, respectable and brilliant.”
Students at Sir George Monoux 6th Form College, London, UK
If as educators, we are serious about addressing the issues relating to students achievement, retention and attainment; we need to firstly address the individual needs of the student. Many students on our courses are motivated and focused; however, there are strong elements of confusion and peer pressure that often cause turmoil and disorientation. Workshops such as “How To Be A Player” are vital tools to aid the process of self-reflection and re-focusing for these students. With this programme as an initial step we can then move onto building and developing.
